The Thoma Foundation recently loaned artwork by Marilou Schultz to Unweaving the binary code – Hannah Ryggen Triennale at Kunstall Trondheim in Norway. Schultz, an acclaimed Navajo weaver and educator, began weaving at the age of seven, following a family tradition that spans more than five generations. In her tapestries, Schultz combines Navajo weaving patterns and techniques with themes from the digital world, such as computer chips and QR codes that explore the boundaries between the digital and the analogue, the traditional and technological.
