As the new Assistant Director of the Thoma Scholars Program, Dr. Russell Miller brings extensive experience in both K–12 and higher education. He has developed programs and pathways specifically designed to support the success of rural populations and underrepresented students.
Most recently, Miller served as faculty and Department Head at LeTourneau University. Prior to that, he was a faculty member and Executive Director at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), where he supported a wide range of rural student initiatives and built new partnerships across the Texas Panhandle to strengthen pathways to college success.
Before transitioning to higher education, Miller dedicated 16 years to K–12 education. His experience includes three years as a paraprofessional, six years as a classroom educator and coach, and seven years in leadership roles at both the campus and district levels.
Miller earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from Baylor University in 2020. He holds a Master of Education from Wayland Baptist University (2012) and a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from West Texas A&M University (2007).
