FILTERED, a new exhibition from the Thoma Foundation now on view at Art Vault
August 12, 2024 |
Filtered through hue, tone, and spatial perception, our visual experience of the world is shaped by the technologies of our time. In Filtered, an exhibition of newly selected works at Art Vault, the Thoma Foundation invites audiences to explore how technology has altered our perspectives on the world around us.
Our ever-present personal devices offer constant distractions that can instantly intensify and shift the mood of any situation—whether it be virtual or in reality. Gaming spaces, where we spend so much time in a state of recreation, can limit, expand, and warp our understanding of our lives and the world.
These altered, not yet fully explored perspectives affect how we move through virtual realms, ultimately influencing how we conceive, build, and occupy the physical spaces around us. Technologies can expand, change, innovate, and grow obsolete in a heartbeat as they blossom into bursts of chromatic color and move us with the simplest of achromatic shadows.
Filtered includes the work of pioneering, innovative and upcoming artists in digital and media art, including Herbert Bayer, David Benjamin, Angela Bulloch, Daniel Canogar, Max Cole, Petra Cortright, Olafur Eliasson, John Gerrard, Huntrezz Janos, Matthew Kluber, LoVid, Jennifer & Kevin McCoy, Ivan Navarro, Sohei Nishino, Alan Rath, Omar Rodriguez-Graham, Sherry, Jennifer Steinkamp, Leo Villareal, Kumi Yamashita, Marina Zurkow.
Admission to Art Vault is free and open to the public. We are located at 540 S Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87501, and are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT. To arrange a guided tour, please email artvaulttours@thomafoundation.org.
