This week the Carl & Marilynn Thoma Art Foundation announced its inaugural awards program recognizing arts writers exploring the digital arts. The Arts Writing Fellowship Awards serve to reward and promote writers who have made significant contributions to writing in the digital arts. The Foundation will award a $30,000 fellowship award to an established digital arts writer in the U.S., and a $15,000 award to an emerging arts writer in the U.S. who demonstrates great potential in writing about the field. The fellowships are no-strings-attached, merit-based awards in recognition of the achievements that the writer has contributed to new dialogues and growth of the field.
The awards are the first of their kind to recognize and reward innovative arts writing that directly impacts the scholarship, history, criticism and theory of the digital arts and evolving technologies within contemporary art. The selection committee that reviews the nominee applications is comprised of three well-respected arts professionals with extensive knowledge of digital arts writing. The selection committee will choose the two awardees from a select pool of applicants, which were nominated by 15 prominent curators, writers and educators across the country. The winners will be announced on April 21, 2015 on the Foundation website and through media announcements.
NOTE: Fellowship awards will change annually and will support initiatives that the Foundation researches and finds to be innovative, insightful, and impactful to our areas of interest.
