El Perú: Art in the Contemporary Past at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque aims to break down stereotypes of what visitors expect to see in a “Peruvian art exhibit.” Featured works include photography, sculpture, ceramics, painting, and multimedia in juxtaposition with examples of their historical antecedents. On loan from the Thoma Foundation are two Spanish Colonial paintings: Our Lady of the Rosary as a Pilgrim, with Saints Dominic and Francis, an 18th-century oil painting with gold on canvas by an unidentified artist, and Our Lady of Mercy, an 18th-century oil painting on canvas from an unidentified workshop.
