Meet the Team: Helen Colton
December 1, 2016 |
Helen Colton joined the Foundation team in August 2016 as our Grants Coordinator. Based in Santa Fe, Helen facilitates our growing grantmaking program by assisting with research, organization and development of tools to serve our internal procedures, applicants and grantees.
THOMA FOUNDATION: Tell us a little about yourself. What did you do before joining the Thoma Foundation team?
HELEN: I moved to New Mexico in 2002, after receiving a B.A in Studio Arts from San Francisco State University. I have been an active member of the Santa Fe art community, working as an administrator and exhibitions coordinator. In my spare time I work as a volunteer with various arts organizations, museums, and public radio. I enjoy being outdoors in the expansive landscape of the Southwest, and am inspired by the quality of light in the high desert.
THOMA FOUNDATION: Do you have a favorite piece of artwork in the collection?
HELEN: I have a strong appreciation for the Light and Space works in the collection, however as a new team member, I have not had the pleasure of seeing any of these pieces in person. During my recent trip to the Chinati Foundation, I did spend an extensive amount of time with a work that is very similar to Lucky You by Robert Irwin. Pulse Index by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer is a work from the Luminous Flux 2.0 exhibition that I resonated with and continue to be inspired by.
THOMA FOUNDATION: Where is your favorite place to see art in the Santa Fe area?
HELEN: I follow the programs and exhibitions at SITE Santa Fe and the Lannan Foundation, and particularly enjoy the lecture series that they both offer. 516 Arts in Albuquerque also has engaging programs.
