The Foundation is excited to support several museums participating in Pacific Standard Time LA/LA. Led by the Getty, Pacific Standard Time is a collaborative effort from arts institutions across Southern California to explore Latin American and Latino art in dialogue with Los Angeles for five months from September 2017 through January 2018.

This year, the Foundation has made a grant in the amount of $100,000 to support the Painted in Mexico, 1700-1790: Pinxit Mexici exhibition and publication at Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Painted in Mexico (Nov. 19, 2017 – Mar. 18, 2018) represents the first effort to date to reposition the history of 18th century painting in Mexico, and will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated publication of scholarly essays. Co-organized with Fomento Cultural Banamex, Mexico City, where it premiered, the exhibition of over 100 works of art (many of them previously unpublished) will subsequently travel to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

California Mexicana: Missions to Murals, 1820-1930 (Oct. 15, 2017 – Jan. 14, 2018) at Laguna Art Museum explores the rich artistic and cultural exchange between California and Mexico, presenting historical works from artists on both sides of the border to contemporary cross-border collaborations. We are pleased to provide support for the accompanying exhibition catalogue as well as an artwork loan from the collection.

Also on view as part of Pacific Standard Time LA/LA, Visual Voyages: Images of Latin American Nature from Columbus to Darwin at The Huntington is an extensive survey of the connections among art, science, and the environment in Latin America. Visual Voyages (Sep. 16, 2017 – Jan. 8, 2018) features more than 150 paintings, rare books, illustrated manuscripts, prints, and drawings, and includes work on loan from the collection.
